Former Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Charles E. Allen, to Keynote Counter Terror Expo US
The Honorable Charles E. Allen, former Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and now Principal of The Chertoff Group, will deliver a keynote address during the Thursday morning plenary session.
At the Department of Homeland Security, Mr. Allen developed the department’s intelligence architecture, integrated its intelligence activities and ensured that they were continuously aligned with the department’s evolving priorities. He also accelerated and expanded the department’s processes for sharing intelligence with state and local security and law enforcement officials. During his more than 40 years at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Mr. Allen became as much a legend as a respected senior official. Mr. Allen became the principal adviser to the Director of Central Intelligence on collection management, where he revolutionized the way the various national intelligence agencies coordinate and target their activities.
In his current role as principal at The Chertoff Group, Mr. Allen brings his extensive experience in intelligence program management, analysis and production; intelligence collection management; system acquisition and warning intelligence. His areas of focus include homeland security threat assessments and information sharing programs, counterterrorism and counter-proliferation threat analysis, critical infrastructure risk assessments, crisis and risk management and corporate strategic planning.
Former US Coast Guard Commandant Thad Allen to Keynote Counter Terror Expo US Thursday Morning
Thad Allen, the former 23rd Commandant of the US Coast Guard and current Booz Allen senior vice president, will deliver the event’s keynote address on Thursday, May 17. Allen’s address on “Where Counterterrorism and Disaster Response Meet” is an important addition to the event’s conference program which is designed to provide a forum for collaboration between public and private sectors in order to gain a better understanding of the solutions available to detect, defend against and reduce future counter terror risks.
In 2010, Mr. Allen was selected by President Obama to serve as the National Incident Commander for the unified response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Working closely with the US Environmental Protection Agency, DHS, the Departments of Defense, Interior, Commerce, and Health and Human Services, state and local entities, and BP, he sought to bring a unity of effort to response operations.
“The very foundation of this event is to provide a platform for communication and collaboration among those who are charged with defending and protecting our nation, directly or by providing the products and services that enable others to do their jobs”, said Wayne Crawford vice president, North America, Clarion Events. “Allen has “been there, done that” and is known for his expertise in bringing together government and non-government entities to address major challenges. We know our community will benefit from his expertise.”

Wednesday Morning Keynote: Former Head of National Counterterrorism Center, Michael Leiter
Michael Leiter's experiences as the former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) and prior to that, Deputy Chief of Staff in the Office of the Director of National Security, give him a unique and powerful perspective on what we must do to face the threat of terror at home and abroad.
“A decade after 9/11, the threat to our nation’s security still persists and the need for analyzing and sharing information and intelligence is more important than ever,” said Leiter. “Counter Terror Expo US will address these critical topics and I’m looking forward to keynoting and sharing my thoughts and experience on the importance of getting our nation’s government organized to successfully address the counterterrorism mission and what we need to do to focus our efforts on the enemy of tomorrow.”
