TOPIC OVERVIEW:
Geospatial intelligence in counter terrorism is vital to maintaining national security. This session will provide insight into applying GIS to national security mission objectives. We will discuss the role of national spatial data infrastructure to support national security, the role of GIS in command and control systems including intelligence centers, as well as geographic solutions for a public safety enterprise.

Mr. Paul Christin
Homeland Security Specialist

Mr. Paul Christin joined ESRI as the Homeland Security Specialist on October 22nd, 2006. His primary responsibilities include understanding the critical issues and challenges facing federal, state, local and tribal agencies involved in the homeland security mission to apply GIS technology solving those challenges. Mr. Christin also devotes his attention internationally and has been involved in homeland security and civil defense activities in Europe and the Middle East. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Corporate Communications in 1987 and has combined his technical abilities with his professional focus to identify technology solutions for public safety mission challenges.
Mr. Christin’s professional history includes product marketing background in delivering computer aided dispatch, mobile, and wireless network solutions to federal, state, and local public safety and emergency response agencies. Prior to his marketing career, he worked within the insurance industry handling large commercial fire losses as well as developed software solutions for the claim department of a leading insurance company. He has served nearly 15 years in the fire service as a fire apparatus engine/firefighter/paramedic in a Northern Illinois community. He is also certified on ICS and HazMat operations and is a previous member of the NFPA.
Mr. Christin has written and published several whitepapers detailing concepts and applications for GIS technology in public safety. He also has been published in several trade publications including; Fire Engineering Magazine and Emergency Numbers Professional. He holds a private pilot certificate with an instrument rating and has been a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilot’s Association (AOPA) since 1987.

Berkeley Varitronics Systems
Mr. Scott N. Schober is the President and CEO of Berkeley Varitronics Systems, a 39-year-old provider of advanced wireless solutions for the telecommunications and security markets. Schober’s focus has been development of WiFi, Bluetooth, and cell phone detection tools, used to enforce a ‘no wireless policy’ in secure government facilities.
Recent appearances include Fox Business Channel, Fox News Live and News 12 NJ as well as several radio programs including XM/Sirius radio. He has presented as a subject expert discussing cyber security/corporate espionage at numerous conferences around the globe. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Kean and thereafter attended graduate studies in telecommunications at New York University.
